Kew Gardens - Client Case Study
Article written: 21/09/2005

Problem:
To obtain graphics and signage for the annual Orchid Festival.
Each Sign would contain large imagery of Orchids and information specific to the displays.

The displays would need to meet Health and safety requirements for a busy public area and the graphics would have to stand up to the unique humid atmosphere of the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens.

Action:
Pod Exhibition Systems to meet with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Having seen the ImageHolders display system on the Pod Exhibition Systems web site ( www.pod-exhibition-systems.co.uk/imageholders.htm ), RBGK were keen to see if this system would meet their requirements. A meeting on site in the Princess of Wales conservatory was arranged, POD having prepared a demonstration model with graphics of the ImageHolders model and this was positioned on site for the client to see.

  Solution:
Royal Botanic Gardens Kew decided on a 2 metre high, double-sided, single-curve unit with top and bottom bracing and client-specific spike feet to allow the units to be positioned amongst the plant beds. Pod Exhibition Systems printed the graphics on 125 micron lightstop polyester, back-to-back with a matt laminate seal front and back, to overcome the high humidity in the conservatory.

Success:
“We are very pleased with the final result. The graphics provided were of a high quality and the installation went without any hitches. We have had lots of positive comments about the interpretation panels and the majority of our visitors actually read them – which is the most positive thing of all!”
